The residents of Jones House raised $4,600 for the Breast Cancer Society of Canada.
Under the leadership of Christian Dupuis, Naz Ali, and Randy Hanley, Jonestock combined punk, alternative, and rock and roll music with a good cause.
Students came together behind Jones House on October 2 to enjoy the talents of 10 musical acts.
Jonestock is based on the idea of Woodstock and had its beginnings four years ago. Since then, it has grown each year with Jonestock 2005 being the most successful fundraiser yet.
Alyssa Daley opened the show shortly after 5:00 p.m. Her rendition of Alannah Myles’ Black Velvet, which won her the title of Bathurst Idol, got the show off to an amazing start.
Following her, was a band made up of Jones House residents called Amplified Silence.
But it was the third act of the evening, Adaptation, a four-piece punk rock band from Riverview, New Brunswick, that really got the crowd’s attention. Their intense music and energy, combined with the stage antics of drummer Chris Cowan raised everyone’s adrenaline a couple notches.
Sister Mercy also proved to be a crowd favorite with their Hendrix-style music.
Other performers included Inertia, Gherkin, Back in Times Project, Ample Fourth, Clay Cats, and Some Parts Awake.
The concert went well into the evening with the last performers finishing near midnight.
Kyle Clark, the drummer for Some Parts Awake, thought the show was a great idea.
“They called us up and asked us if we wanted to play and we said right on, we’ll be there.”
Clark also stated that the show was for a great cause and the “super relaxed” atmosphere made for a great show.
Dupuis, the house Don, believes the show was a brilliant success though they are hoping to improve for Jonestock 2006.
“Scheduling is difficult because CIBC Run for the Cure is early in the school year,” says Dupuis. “The production of such an event requires a lot of timing.”
The evening also included a barbeque, with all proceeds going to the cause, free giveaways, and the comedic style of MC’s Ryan Hatfield and Mark “Meats” McClellum.
A group of Jones House residents also participated in the Run for the Cure, held in downtown Fredericton on the 3rd of October.
The organizers of Jonestock 2004 would like to thank their sponsors, Caribbean Flavas, College Hill Social Club, GAP Custom Images, Smooth Motion, Nicky Zee’s, DJ Nasty Naz, Enterprise, Pepsi, and Victory Meat Market.
